In basketball, a field goal represents any basket (except a free throw) made within the boundary lines of the basketball court. In the NBA, field goals are worth two or three points, depending on the shooter’s location at the scoring time. In FIBA 3×3 basketball, they can be worth one point or four in the BIG3 league.
The primary way of scoring points during the basketball game is two-point field goals. These baskets are made from within the three-point line and include the infamous slam dunks, jump shots, and layups.
Three-pointers are made from the three-point line and beyond; the most famous are the half-court shots at the end of the quarter.
