How many points is a field goal worth?
Field goals can be worth two or three points, depending on the location from which the basket was attempted.
A two-point field goal
is the main way players win points. They are made from anywhere inside the three-point line.
Types of two-point field goals:
- Dunks
- Jump shots
- Layups
A three-point field goal
is made from anywhere outside the three-point line.
Types of three-point field goals:
- Regular three-point shot, when the player stands outside the perimeter with both feet
- Half-court throw, usually thrown before the clock buzzes the end of a quarter.
