A tennis match consists of points, gems, and sets. To win a match, a player must win two sets in Masters and Challenger tournaments and three sets in prestigious events such as the Grand Slam. To win a set, a player must win six gems; to win a game, a player must win at least four points with a two-point advantage.
If the players tie in the final set (6-6), they play the tiebreaker set. The first player to serve will serve one point, and after that first point, both players will serve two consecutive points until one reaches 7 points with a margin of two points over the opposing player. The players will switch sides every six points to be entirely fair to both sides regarding weather conditions.
If a final fifth set results in a tie, the 10-point rule has been adopted in 2022, regarding the endless battle for the final set and the title, making the players exhausted and not very appealing.
The players will play a final 10-point set, and the first to reach 10 points with a two-point advantage over the opponent will emerge victorious. If it comes to a 9-9 situation, it just means the next player who scores two consecutive points wins the set.
The fifth set in the Grand Slam tournament was considered the “advantage set,” and it was not used to determine a winner. The game was on until one of the players acquired the lead of two points and, by that, won the set. Theoretically, these sets could go on indefinitely until 2019, when the governing bodies introduced rules that would prevent that.
