One of the four major leagues, Major League Baseball (MLB), currently consists of 30 teams. They are divided equally between the two leagues, NL (National League) and AL (American League), and each of the leagues is later divided into subdivisions: East, West, and Central.
American League | National League | |
East | Baltimore Orioles Boston Red Sox New York Yankees Tampa Bay Rays Toronto Blue Jays | Atlanta Braves Miami Marlins New York Mets Philadelphia Phillies Washington Nationals |
West | Houston Astros Los Angeles Angels Oakland Athletics Seattle Mariners Texas Rangers | Arizona Diamondbacks Los Angeles Dodgers Colorado Rockies San Diego Padres San Francisco Giants |
Central | Chicago White Sox Cleveland Guardians Detroit Tigers Kansas City Royals Minnesota Twins | Chicago Clubs Cincinnati Reds Milwaukee Brewers Pittsburg Pirates St. Louis Cardinals |
There is an odd number of teams in both leagues (15); two teams must compete in an interleague game for most of the season.
Each team plays 162 games in one MLB season, which lasts approximately six months, from March/April to October, and the postseason runs until November.
