Played for a period upwards of six months, in summation of 2430 games (excluding the postseason), each of the 30 teams in the National and American League competes in 162 games in Major League Baseball season (MLB).
Each league (the NL and the AL) is subdivided into three divisions: East, West, and Central.
In thirteen games, one team competes against the other four chosen opponents from the same division. (52 games)
Six or seven games are played against the other ten teams in the same league. (64 games)
Four games against one team (the “geographic rival”) from the other league. (4 games)
Each of the last three games is played against the 14 other teams in the other league. (42 games).
Consisting of 106 divisional games and 46 interleague games, the MLB is one of the, if not the most ambitious and demanding sports leagues there is.
The regular MLB season starts in late March/early April and usually ends at the beginning of October. The dates are not set because conditions that cannot be controlled, such as bad weather, can impact the game, so games might be rescheduled.
