A triple-double appears when a player scores double digits in three different categories out of five in one game. The five categories are points, rebounds, assists, steals, and blocked shots. For example, a player may complete a triple-double by scoring 10 points, recording 10 steals, and making 10 rebounds. 

The most common categories in which the player may complete a triple-double are points, rebounds, and assists.

In the NBA, a triple-double was made an official statistic in 1979. That season has recorded a boost in the number of players who accomplished a triple-double. The player with the most triple-doubles collected was Russell Westbrook, who recorded 199.

Field goals can be worth two or three points, depending on the location from which the basket was attempted. 

A two-point field goal 

is the main way players win points. They are made from anywhere inside the three-point line.

Types of two-point field goals:

• Dunks
• Jump shots
• Layups

A three-point field goal

is made from anywhere outside the three-point line.

 Types of three-point field goals:

• Regular three-point shot, when the player stands outside the perimeter with both feet
• Half-court throw, usually thrown before the clock buzzes the end of a quarter.

An NBA game consists of four quarters, each lasting 12 minutes, making the whole game 48 minutes long. Because the clock stops every time the game stops, the game does not last 48 minutes exactly. In summation, the entire game lasts around 2-3 hours with the clock stoppings.

The stopping of the clock applies to a situation when a foul has been committed, a timeout has been called, a free throw is being shot, or a player or the ball is out of bounds. There are also commercials and halftime, which lasts 15 minutes, and breaks between the first and second quarter and third and fourth quarter in a duration of 5-30 minutes. 

That is why watching the match broadcast makes it seem longer, but in reality, the playing part of the game lasts 48 minutes + overtime, if necessary.
