What Is a Brace In Football?

cristiano ronaldo

Brace stands for “two of a kind.” In football, a brace is the accomplishment of one player scoring twice in one match, not necessarily consecutively. Similarly, a hat trick is scoring three goals in a single game. Goals scored during the regulation 90 minutes and extra time count. The goals in a penalty shootout don’t.

Christiano Ronaldo scored the most braces in the Champions League, with 38 collected, followed by Messi, who scored 34.

Alex Torr set a record for the fastest hat trick in a Sunday league game in 2013, which took 70 seconds.

There is a brace – scoring two goals, a hat trick – scoring three goals, and an even more extended version of the term—the perfect hat trick. The perfect hat trick happens when a player scores one goal with their right foot, the second with their left, and the third with their head.

How Do NBA Playoffs Work?

how do nba playoffs work

The NBA playoffs is an elimination tournament held annually to determine the league champion. After the regular season, the best 16 teams from both conferences (Eastern and Western conferences, eight teams each) participate in the playoffs, which consist of three phases: quarter-final, semifinal, and final.

The two winning Eastern and Western conference teams progress to a seven-game NBA finals.

The regular season serves before the preliminaries for teams to strive and secure their spot in the playoffs. Prior to the playoffs, the main preliminary competition of the postseason is held – the NBA play-in tournament, to determine two playoff seeds.

In the NBA play-in tournament, teams ranked 7 through 10, based on their winning percentage in the regular season, compete to establish the 7th and 8th participants in the playoff tournament. In the meantime, based on their accomplishments during the regular season, six teams of each conference advance to a four-round competition—the playoffs.

The NBA play-in tournament uses an adjusted Page playoff format. The 7th and 8th-ranked teams play each other to qualify for the first seed. Then, the 9th and 10th-ranked teams play each other to compete with the 8th-ranked team for the second playoff seed.

Since 2014, the playoffs tournament’s series (best-of-seven) format has been 2-2-1-1-1. The team with home-court advantage hosts games 1, 2, 5, and 7, and the away team hosts games 3, 4, and 6. Games 5, 6, and 7 are played only if needed.

If two teams within the same conference are tied in winning percentage during the regular season, final rankings are established after the tiebreaker criteria are applied.

The tiebreaker criteria:

  • Head-to-head record
  • Division record
  • Conference record
  • Winning percentage against playoff teams in its own conference
  • Winning percentage against playoff teams in the opposing conference
  • Point differential in all games.

Buster Douglas Hands Iron Mike Tyson His First Loss – TBT #3

mike tyson vs buster douglas

On February 19th,1990, the undisputed heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson collides with the challenger James “Buster” Douglas at the Tokyo Dome. “Iron” Mike is undefeated with a 37-0 record and 33 knockouts and holds the IBF, WBC, WBA, as well as the Ring Heavyweight title. Meanwhile, the 42:1 underdog, Douglas, has a 28-4-1 record and looks to pull off the upset of the century.

The fight begins, and from the start, it is clear that Douglas isn’t afraid of Tyson. He efficiently uses his super-fast jab to stop Tyson from getting inside, where he is absolutely lethal. Whenever Tyson tries to get inside, Douglas either moves away from Mike or hits him with a flurry of quick punches.

Douglas was the better boxer throughout the whole fight, and Tyson’s left eye eventually swells up due to an endless number of jabs. Then, something unexpected happens. With only 10 seconds left in the 8th round, Tyson lands a ferocious right uppercut and sends Douglas to the canvas. Nevertheless, “Buster” Douglas gets up as the referee signals nine, with the bell ending the round. In the 9th round, despite being knocked down in the previous one, Douglas completely outboxes Tyson, who’s on the verge of getting knocked out.

In the 10th round, after “Buster” lands a couple of jabs, he throws a nasty uppercut that snaps Tyson’s head back. As Tyson tries to recover, Douglas doesn’t wait to punish him and lands four punches to Mike’s head, knocking him out and giving him the first loss of his career.

In the post-fight interview, Douglas was asked how he was able to beat Mike, and “Buster” said he won because of his mother, who died 20 days before the fight.

That day, “Buster” Douglas became the new heavyweight boxing champion of the world and pulled off one of the greatest upsets in boxing and sports history.
