In American football, the tight end is an offensive position that unites the roles of two other positions—an offensive lineman and a receiver. Tight ends play inside the flanks (tight). Their duties are to block for the running backs and the quarterback, and they can run into the field and catch passes.

Natural for the offensive players, they are strong and dominant on the line. Positioned inside the flanks, they can split as the wide receiver. 

The head coach plays a pivotal role in determining the specific duties of the tight end based on the team’s dynamics and requirements. This could involve utilizing the tight end primarily as a receiver, capitalizing on their size, or deploying them as purely a sixth man on the offensive line.

Organized Team Activities play an important part in preparing the team for the upcoming season. OTAs are training sessions that usually take place from late April to mid-June, differing from leagues and teams. This is the off-season period when new players officially become part of the team and act in that capacity.

Players new to the teams start taking lectures and attending seminars that the NFL has organized in advance to prepare them before entering the field, while veteran players use this time to promote football camps to the youth and enjoy free off-season time.
