A prop bet is a bet made on the basis of a proposition that a certain event may or may not occur during a game.
Traditionally, prop bets are made on sporting events focused on team or player performance, such as the total number of points scored by a specific team, the number of strikes of a certain player, the number of goals defended, or whether a certain player will score a point, which team will score first, etc.
Today, prop bets can be made regarding political events, general occurrences around the globe, regarding everything that your sportsbook will allow you to wager on.
For bets that are not that common, are long-term, or may not be regarding the current event, you must come to your sportsbook operator and disclose the proposition specifically. The operator will send the request to the oddsmakers, and they will respond with whether or not they accept the proposition. If they accept, they will disclose the odds they are giving you, and you can accept or decline their proposition.
